Ontologi - Where Strategy Begins

Why?

Good plans work, and by definition bad plans fail. Simple, no?

So…you have to choose the right plan in order for it to work, right? (I’m assuming you’re working the plan.)

Unfortunately, there are hundreds of potential plans.

See, the thinking that goes into planning (for the unpredictable) has seeds of its own failure.

There are soooo many ways in which things can get all mucked up. Therefore, plans have to get more complicated.

You see, you can attempt to make the plans more survivable, but all you’re really doing is making the plans more fragile because you’re adding more complexity to them.

———

Complex things are fragile.

The more complex something is the more constrained an environment it can properly function within.

Did you know this? Spores can survive…

  • in the hard vacuum of space
  • in the frigid climes of Antarctica
  • in areas near lava.

Spores are simple.

We humans are not. We have limited temperature ranges under limited atmopheric pressures to exist…and that’s just the start.

By far, we’re more complex.

———

Strategies are made for their robustness. And the robust strategies are simple, understandable, flexible, and alterable.

Plans are not easy to alter, because it’s a rigid step-by-step process. If a step needs changing, then potentially ALL steps need changing. Imagine building a house where if you lose one support the entire house falls.

Is your business built on a plan or a strategy?

Focus. Things are complex enough on their own.
