Common sense is rarely found when confused or overwhelmed.
When confused you expend all you’ve got on gaining stability. It’s a victory when up is up and down is down.
When overwhelmed you expend all you’ve got on survival. Battling another day is victory in itself.
If you’ve expended all, you’ve got nothing left for common sense.
So, on those rare moments when you have time to reflect. Those times where when a metallic black bolt of shame runs up your spine as you look back on a stupid stupid stupid decision…were you overwhelmed? Were you or your people confused? Don’t be so hard on yourself, there wasn’t room for common sense.
But…
If that’s most of the time, most of your days…you’ve got a problem.
Focus. Make room for the obvious.
