When we think bass ackwards, it’s REALLY difficult to focus.

What’s Bass Ackwards thinking?

Let’s use one of our key tools. It’s a Lens called VWM.

V = Value
W = Way
M = Means.

Bass Ackwards thinking starts with your Means. Like:

  • What do I have?
  • What resources are available?
  • What means can I employ?

From there, you’d decide what WAYS to use those available Means.

  • How can I use these things.
  • Where can I employ this?
  • When can I exploit that?

Then, you’d look for a Value for all this.

PROBLEM!!!

How many different means, tools, resources are there out there? Too many, is the phrase that comes to mind.

So you’re starting from too many, then trying to find a method of employing them. How many ways are there to use different tools? Too many.

And finally you are trying to uncover something valuable by putting this hodge-podge together.

That’s one perspective on why…

Means => Way => Value

is BASS ACKWARDS.

This way of thinking makes it supremely difficult to solve your business problem, it’s simply not an approach with any focus.

There is good news though about this…two pieces of news, actually.

  1. Almost everyone thinks like this. It’s natural. The tools, the resoures, the means are staring us in the face. We, naturally, start thinking from what we see. That means your competitors think this way.
  2. You don’t have to think that way.

Focus. Let them be bass ackwards.
